An Educational Foundation for Adults
The Downtown Adult Literacy Program (DALP) is a program of ABCD LearningWorks. DALP serves adults over the age 18 with four levels of GED preparation classes. In addition to classroom learning, students also learn basic computer skills, participate in activities including field trips and guest lectures, and take part in the Boston's annual Adult Education and Literacy Week.
Levels of instruction offered include:
Level 1: Basics 1 Basic literacy class for adult learners just starting to read.
Level 2: Basics 2 Instruction for students with low elementary level reading and basic math capacities.
Level 3: Pre-GED Adults reading, writing, math, science, and social studies instruction. The classes are intended for those students who are at 5th to 8th grade level in all of the 5 subject areas.
Level 4: GED This class prepares adult students for GED exams in 5 subject areas (reading, writing, math, science, and social studies).
All four levels are taught 6 hours a week during the evening hours. In addition, Level 3 and Level 4 classes are offered for 12 hours a week during the morning hours.
