Alberto Vasallo III - El Mundo

To many, Alberto Vasallo is the face of the Latino media in Boston and beyond. For all he has done and all he continues to do for the community he holds dear, ABCD is honored to call Alberto a friend, and welcomes him as one of our special awardees.

Alberto is the Vice President of El Mundo, the largest and most widely read Latino newspaper in New England. El Mundo has been recognized both locally and nationally for covering the Latino community for over 35 years. Alberto has been a part of that success for 26 of those 35 years, joining up with El Mundo in 1981 – four years before he even graduated high school!

As a “double eagle,” graduating from Boston College High School in 1985 and Boston College in 1989, Alberto worked through the ‘90s at WRCA, Caliente 1330, as host and co-producer of one of Spanish radio’s most popular drive-time radio shows, ushering in the talk radio format for Spanish radio.

In 1995, Alberto partnered with the Boston Red Sox in promoting and implementing the Latino Youth Recognition days at Fenway Park. The event includes a pre-game ceremony with Red Sox Latino players – Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz among others.

In 2001 Alberto founded “Latino Night” at Fenway Park, which is the year’s largest Latino event in Boston. For the past seven seasons he has also worked in several capacities with the Boston Red Sox Spanish Baseball Radio Network.

But Alberto’s media involvement doesn’t end there. He also does work on two television shows on Channel 7, WHDH. Since 1995 he has produced and hosted “Revista Hispana. He is also a correspondent and host for “Urban Update.”

He is a part of an organization that refurbishes baseball fields in the Dominican Republic for underprivileged teens who just want to play. Alberto also coordinates events like the “Latino Career Expo,” which is one of the largest career expos of its kind in New England.

To ABCD, Alberto is a tremendous asset and a friend who always comes through when needed. He uses his media access – both print and broadcast – to put the spotlight on some of ABCD’s most important programs, and he’s always there in a pinch to emcee an event, doing so with an unmatched sense of class and style.

“Alberto shares ABCD’s vision,” said ABCD President/CEO Bob Coard. “He wants to help people get to the next level, and he has done so in countless ways. He cares about our youth and others who are struggling to make it in this world. And he’s also incredibly talented and a natural media personality. I can’t tell you how much we appreciate all that he does, every day, for the Latino community and everyone else!”
