Barbara Jones - Women's Service Club

The Women’s Service Club proudly recognizes Barbara Jones for her unwavering service to making a difference in her community.

Barbara has been a member of the Women’s Service Club for 32 years.  As a volunteer, she upholds the club’s 88-year-old mission to provide support to families so that they may better themselves and their communities.  But it is her role outside the club that makes her such an exemplary activist.

Barbara is a member of the National Association of Black Nurses, Seniors on the Move and the Urban League Guild.  She volunteers her time with the AARP, Reach 2010, Little Brothers, Friends of the Elderly and Family Services of Greater Boston.  She was the Education and Scholarship Chairman for the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Club, a Union Representative for Boston Public Schools and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Jurisdiction of Massachusetts Inc.

Prior to her retirement, Barbara was a Registered Nurse for 35 years, working for the U.S. Public Health Service Hospital in Brighton and as school nurse for Boston Public Schools.  For her contributions in public health and her service to the community, she has been honored by Charles St. AME Church and was the recipient of the National Women’s History Award, U.S. Public Health Service Nursing Scholarship, the Vivian Allen Nursing Award and an MLK Education Scholarship.

Barbara received a bachelor’s degree in education from University of Massachusetts, a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Northeastern University, a master’s degree from Cambridge College and was a part of a doctoral program at Bridgewater State College.

Barbara is a proud mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
