Benito Diaz is a success story in progress. For turning his life around to benefit the disadvantaged in his community, Harbor Point/Project Care & Concern applauds him.
For the past four years, Benito has diligently served the Uphams Corner and Harbor Point communities in Dorchester at Project Care & Concern. He has become a fixture at the agency, someone whom the staff, residents, and clients have come to rely on.
Day after day Benito distributes goods to those in need and takes on the arduous task of stocking the second floor pantry. He also helps in the thrift store. Benito is especially attentive to the needs of the neighborhood elderly population. The organization is on the second floor and has no elevator; many customers have difficulty navigating the stairs. It is not unusual to see Benito helping someone onto the bus after helping them down the stairs and out the building.
Benito is also a bilingual volunteer, a tremendous asset to the many Spanish-speaking clients who come to the center for assistance. “Benito has had to overcome many challenges and obstacles in his life to get where he is today,” said Program Director Sister Joyce McMullen. “He serves as an inspiration to all who are in the business of helping others. I’m proud to call Benito my friend and he is truly a friend to all of us at Project Care & Concern.”
Benito credits the goodness in the people he works for keeping him motivated in his service. He continues to draw on their sense of dedication and selflessness to better serve his community.
