Christine Kane - South Boston

The South Boston APAC pays tribute to Christine Kane for her innovative efforts to engage the youth of her community in productive, artistic pursuits.

Christine says her parents taught her at an early age: “find passion and your life will become more meaningful.”  Fortunately for the residents of South Boston, Christine’s passion is her community. Christine has challenged the youth in her neighborhood to find their inner creativity and unleash the potential artist that she believes is inside of all of them.  She introduced to South Boston the concept of team-created public art, a project that resulted in four pieces produced by local youth and adults.  Christine also works with seniors in her neighborhood helping them to develop a critical eye for understanding fine arts.

Christine is the current director of the Early Books program at the South Boston Neighborhood House where she introduces and cultivates the love of reading in families with pre-school and elementary school children.  She was also instrumental in assisting with an intergenerational quilt project in honor of the first graduating class of the South Boston Nurturing Program.

She later helped introduce the Teen Moms Nurturing Program to the South Boston community.  Christine has even drawn on her love of running as a way to benefit her community, turning road races into fundraising opportunities that support programs close to her heart.

“Christine never stops coming up with new ways to help our community,” said Pat Wright, director of the South Boston APAC. “All of us at the APAC commend her for her ongoing dedication to enriching the lives of those around her.”
