In recognition of his significant contributions for the betterment of his community, the John F. Kennedy FSC recognizes David Whelan.
David is described by many as the consummate community activist, as evidenced by his lengthy resume of leadership with numerous Charlestown organizations. He is particularly active with the Charlestown Neighborhood Council, serving as vice chair of the City Advisory Board and co-chair of the Community Mitigation Committee, working to ensure all of Charlestown’s non-profit organizations are evaluated fairly and transparently. David is also the secretary of the Bunker Hill Associates where he raises revenues for distribution to local youth groups.
He serves on the Charlestown Community Appreciation Award Committee, responsible for helping to select the deserving recipients each year and is a member of the Friends of the Charlestown Navy Yard board, a group of committed individuals trying to make the Navy Yard more accessible to the community.
For the last eleven years, David has worked for the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority serving as the Manager of Finance and Administration. He received a Master of Science in public affairs from the UMass-Boston and a Bachelor of Science in accounting from Boston College.
On top of this, David still finds time to help his friends at the John F. Kennedy FSC. “All of us at the Kennedy Center could not be prouder of the work that David does in our community,” said Kate McDonough, director of the Center. “He is that rare individual who puts his convictions into action and the result is a better place for all of us to live."
