Eliza Santiago - Jamaica Plain

Eliza Santiago is committed to people in need, connecting her neighbors with the vital services available in her community. The Jamaica Plain APAC praises Eliza Santiago for her advocacy and dedicated service to the agency and the people it serves.

Eliza has been volunteering at the Jamaica Plain APAC for over three years.  Her willingness to help with all projects big and small has made her an integral part of the organization.  She logs countless hours each week running the APAC’s food pantry, stocking shelves, keeping track of inventory and ensuring that needs of her clients are met.

In addition she frequently volunteers at the front desk of the center, fulfilling a much needed administrative role of answering calls, greeting clients and handling the clerical needs of the busy office.  Eliza also volunteers as a nurse assistant with the Assisted Living Facility in Brookline.  She is certified as a day care assistant through Boston City Hall’s Senior Aid Program and attended the Brooklyn Nurses Training Center in New York.

“Eliza’s genuine concern for the welfare of others makes clients feel so comfortable in her presence,” said Ana Soto de Bechtold, program manager of the Jamaica Plain APAC. “She has an extraordinary ability to make real connections with the people we serve.  She is a true asset to not only to our organization but to our community of Jamaica Plain.”

Eliza says she is motivated by the simple pleasure of being able to provide the same guidance and support she was once given. She looks forward to many more years of service to the Jamaica Plain APAC and the people in her community.
