Joseph Amodeo Jr. is the quintessential community volunteer, tirelessly working behind the scenes to make sure those less fortunate are better served. The East Boston APAC is proud to have him as an integral part of their team.
Born and raised in East Boston, Joe exhibits extraordinary loyalty to his neighborhood while ensuring those around him are properly cared for. He is frequently found at the Heritage Apartment Complex, helping seniors with tasks they would otherwise be unable to accomplish on their own.
Joe has been a member of the East Boston APAC Board of Directors since 1999, actively involved in the many services and programs the agency provides to low-income community residents. He has established himself as an indispensable asset to the APAC, always on hand to tackle the odds and ends that arise in maintaining the ongoing operations of the organization.
Joe takes the initiative to make sure the front grounds are well-maintained, from raking the leaves in the fall to shoveling the sidewalks in the winter. He tends to the office, cleans the Head Start center and repaints faded walls. Joe also provides valuable assistance to his housing development by planting and hedging the yard, decorating for the holidays and tidying the common areas.
“Joe volunteers for the sake of lending a hand, never asking for recognition for his efforts,” says Amy Lima, acting director of the East Boston APAC. “He simply comes into our office every morning and asks ‘What needs to get done?’ And the best part about Joe is that he gets it done and then comes back the next day for more!”
