To the thousands of clients she has helped over her 20-plus years at ABCD, Mo Chi Jee is simply known as “Molly.” “When I first started, people couldn’t understand my name,” she said. So “Mo Chi” became “Molly,” and Molly became the backbone of the organization whose purpose is to keep the heat on in homes across the Boston area.
Mo Chi is the Head of the Certification Unit for ABCD’s Fuel Assistance program. Every fuel assistance application passes through her desk; the job requires a painstaking attention to detail. For Mo Chi, it’s a perfect fit.
“Mo Chi has proven over and over to be a very valuable employee,” said ABCD President/CEO Bob Coard. “In the Fuel Assistance program, we work with people who are really suffering – Mo Chi goes the extra mile for them and she also tends to all of the technical aspects of the position. We are very fortunate to have her!”
ABCD has been a part of Mo Chi’s story since she emigrated from China in 1975. Upon arrival, she entered a job training program through ABCD, and all three of her boys attended ABCD Head Start centers.
Mo Chi says what she loves most about her job is being able to help people. “They come to me with no heat,” she said. “Sometimes I can get them heat within 24 hours and it makes them so happy. They call me to thank me.”
She also provides Chinese translation service “free of charge.” She has accompanied ABCD clients to the social security office, the housing office or the hospital – all on her free time. “When you help people, they appreciate you,” she said.
Mo Chi has helped people at ABCD for more than two decades; we appreciate and honor her for all she has done.
