Even though Perry Smith has been retired for almost two decades, it hasn’t stopped him from marching toward his goal of bringing necessary technology to at-risk communities where the need is the greatest. For his continued efforts, ABCD’s South End NSC (SNAP) honors Mr. Smith tonight.
Perry chairs the Board of the Benjamin Healthcare Center. He also consults with Executive Service Corporation, and served as Treasurer for Alliance for Young Families. He was a founder and organizer of the Roxbury Entrepreneurs Club and is an ordained Elder of the Roxbury Presbyterian Church. He is also the former chair of Central Boston Elder Services.
Community service is something that runs deep in Perry’s family. For the last 25 years, Mr. Smith has been married to Jeanette Boone, the President of SNAP’s Advisory Board. They have three adult sons.
Perry came to the Boston area as a native of Philadelphia. He graduated from Penn State University with Honors in 1948 after a 22 month tour during World War II in the Navy. He holds a Master’s degree from New York University, and continued advanced studies toward a Doctorate degree from Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute.
He worked with a number of professional organizations throughout his career, including General Electric. He has also earned a place in the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity.
“We are proud and honored to have Perry as such a crucial element in our organization,” said Mirta Rodriguez, director of SNAP. “He and his wife Jeanette do so much for the community; it’s a pleasure to work alongside him.”
