Keeping a Roof Over Their Heads

  • The number of homeless families in Boston has risen for the third straight year.
  • Homelessness has increased 57 percent over the last 15 years.
  • Half of all Boston’s homeless are currently employed but can't afford housing.
  • The average age of a homeless child in Boston is 8.

The Homelessness Prevention Department at ABCD helps families keep the homes they already have. Focusing on prevention has proven to be not only effective but cost-effective. Prevention strategies like landlord-tenant mediation, housing court assistance and rental assistance keep at-risk families in their homes at a tenth of the cost of housing a family for a year.

ABCD has the power to help these people. The Housing Department staff is fluent in over ten languages. They are trained housing advocates and volunteers. The programs are in place. All that’s needed is the money to keep them running.

That’s where ABCD’s Keeping a Roof Over Their Heads Charity Auction Benefit comes in. You have the opportunity to aid this program by bidding on some fantastic items donated by businesses across Boston.

Help us keep a roof over the heads of Boston’s at-risk families.
