Credits that Low-Income Families Deserve
With the help of countless VITA volunteers, ABCD provides free tax preparation for low-income clients. In 2010, ABCD's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program prepared nearly 5,600 returns, securing more than $7.6 million in Earned Income Tax Credits (EITC) and income tax refunds for Boston's working families and individuals.
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is coordinated through ABCD’s Financial Futures Initiative. Volunteers prepare taxes for low-income individuals and families, and maximize access to the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). Our volunteers are IRS-certified, and are trained to assist clients in finding hundreds of dollars worth of tax credits that many may not have known they are even eligible for.
VITA services increase low-income clients' tax returns, helping them to build savings, pay off debts, or invest in their homes or education.
